Body Mass Index (BMI)
Health Assessment
Understand Your Body Composition
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple screening tool that uses your height and weight to estimate body fat and assess your weight category. While not a direct measure of body fat, BMI is an important indicator of weight-related health risks.
At Lakeside Pharmacy, we offer BMI assessments as part of our comprehensive health screening services. Our pharmacists will calculate your BMI, explain what it means, and provide guidance on maintaining a healthy weight.
BMI Categories
BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height² (m²)
<18.5
Underweight
May indicate nutritional deficiency or other health issues. Consult a healthcare provider.
18.5-24.9
Normal Weight
Healthy range. Maintain with balanced diet and regular exercise.
25-29.9
Overweight
Increased health risk. Consider lifestyle modifications.
>30
Obese
Higher health risk. Professional support recommended.
Important Note
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure. It doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle mass. Athletes with high muscle mass may have a high BMI without excess fat. Other factors like waist circumference, body composition, and overall health should also be considered.
